Prospective vets and vet nurses spend day at Bristol Vet School
5 November 2018
On Saturday 27th October 70 prospective vets and vet nurses spent the day at Bristol Vet School Clinical Campus.
The day was aimed at those in school years 11 and 12 but we also welcomed older and younger delegates. The day started with a guidance talk about what vets and vet nurses do, where they are employed, remuneration and what to consider when applying to train to be a vet or vet nurse. This was followed by a full-on day of activities including a tour of the clinical facilities; hands-on clinical skills; the chance to be part of the response team in a disease outbreak; sessions on feline behaviour, pathology, admissions processes and work experience. The day was led by a small group of staff and an enthusiastic team of 17 vet students. Parents/ carers also had the opportunity for a tour, a guidance talk and the opportunity to quiz a member of the admissions team.
This is an annual event which has just moved from the spring to the autumn so we were delighted with the numbers who enrolled. It will run again in October/ November 2019.
The feedback has been positive with one saying 'The clinical skills activity was great and I thoroughly enjoyed my day. It was a relaxed and friendly environment and has assured me that being a vet is exactly what I want to do'
