More about this group

We have a growing and very active group involved in a range of projects to enhance veterinary education and undertake research. The team is multidisciplinary and many aspects of our work are collaborative with colleagues at other veterinary schools in the UK, EU and beyond.

What are we doing at the moment?

• Haptics and clinical skills: Bristol Veterinary School uses the Haptic Cow and Haptic Horse to train students and we are working with Bristol Robotics Lab on a range of simulation projects. Our new Clinical Skills Lab is equipped with a wide range of stations and includes some innovative models for learning farm animal practical skills. The group have been involved in an international collaboration to produce a booklet: ‘A Guide to Veterinary Clinical Skills Laboratories’
• Assessment and feedback: We recently launched a new ‘Teaching & Learning’ workshop series on e.g. assessment, giving feedback and small group teaching. Additionally Sarah Baillie and Sheena Warman are co-authors for the booklet: ‘A Guide to Assessment in Veterinary Medicine’
• Professionalism: We are collaborating on a range of projects including a systematic review of business skills (via Best Evidence Medical Education)
• Extramural studies (EMS): A series of computer aided learning (CAL) programmes are available to help students prepare for EMS – animal husbandry, clinical EMS, veterinary nurses
• Tracking: With the team at Edinburgh we are undertaking stakeholder consultations on introducing more career choice in the undergraduate curriculum
• Informal lifelong learning: Bristol is a partner in the EU NOVICE project which provides a professional network for vets, students and educationalists.
