Current project: Development of new methods to measure animal emotions with infrared thermography. The long-term aim is to provide veterinarians, farmers and others with quick and practicable techniques to monitor health and welfare. To make that possible, I focus on solving three key challenges in field of thermography on animal emotions: 1) Developing methods to detect not only emotional arousal (for which methods do already exist) but also valence, i.e. whether the animal's experience is positive or negative. 2) Detecting long-term states such as chronic pain and chronic stress. 3) Excluding environmental and physiological confounding factors during thermographic measurements.
