Impact
Much of my current focus is on the dissemination of new animal welfare science to pet owners. My book 'Dog Sense: how the new science of dog behavior can make you a better friend to your pet' was published in the USA in May 2011 and appeared on the New York Times and Independent Bookshop bestseller lists the following month. In June 2012 it was awarded a Gold Medal by the Independent Publishers Association. The UK and Commonwealth edition of this book, 'In Defence of Dogs', featured in the Sunday Times bestseller lists for 6 weeks in the summer of 2011, and is being translated into Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, German, Dutch, Polish, Finnish, Korean and Japanese. A companion volume, 'Cat Sense', is due to be published in 2013 in both UK and US editions.
I serve as a Trustee for the Universities Federation for Animal Welfare, and as an advisor to the Eurogroup for Animals, and the charity Medical Detection Dogs.
