Professor Stephen Sparks has been appointed the new Chair of the Advisory Committee on Mathematics Education (ACME) as of 13 January 2012. The position will last for three years following the completion of term of the previous Chair, Professor Dame Julia Higgins.ACME serves the mathematical community on issues of education, seeking to improve the quality of teaching of maths in schools and colleges. It is responsible for advising the Government on the curriculum, assessment and the supply and training of teachers in mathematics.
