Getting started

Creating a new website from scratch

Website proposal

Proposals for new websites from June 2012

We are no longer creating new websites within the Plone Content Management System. This is because Plone has reached maximum capacity and is suffering with performance issues. IT Services have begun implementation of the replacement system (T4) but are only able to maintain, rather than develop, Plone.

If you have an urgent website requirement, please discuss this with your Web Officer.

Creating a site that replaces an existing site

Please see our notice regarding proposals for new websites from June 2012.

Updating a website

If you need to update an existing website, you should contact the website's site administrator. They will be able to add you to the list of site publishers. If you aren't sure who this is, contact us. You may also need some training.

Handing over or archiving a website

Handing over publishing responsibilities

If you are a site administrator you need to let us know who will be taking over your role and when. If you are no longer going to be a site publisher, we will remove you from the system and mailing lists. If not already registered as a publisher, your successor will need to complete the appropriate form:

These forms must be signed either by the head of your department or the Vice President (Activities) as appropriate. You must have an existing Bristol username before being registered as a site publisher.

All new site administrators will be invited to meet a member of the Web Editor Team. This will probably be your faculty web officer and will be an opportunity to find out about the support we offer all University site publishers.

Archiving a website

Please let us know if an entire website or group of webpages need to be removed from the web or whether they just need to be flagged as no longer being updated. Any websites or webpages that are removed need their URLs redirected to a new location.
