Research Mobility Programme

The Research Mobility Programme (RMP) encourages personal and academic development of individuals, primarily early in their research careers, to equip them with the skills needed for future international academic success. The programme allows young scholars to advance their knowledge-base within their field of study, establish new contacts and mentors, and enhance their graduate dissertations through the experience gained in studying in other research cultures. WUN members waive any fees associated with the RMP, which are typically short visits of 2-3 months. The programme enables institutions across the network to exchange expertise, share access to rare facilities and establish new relationships at both graduate and supervisor level. The RMP enables postgraduate research students to visit any WUN partner institution to collaborate with resident academics, to gain experience in new working environments and to build research networks.

The RMP provides a great opportunity to:

University of Bristol specific guidance

Applications are welcome from PhD students and Early Career Researchers (Pathway 1) at Bristol from all academic fields, both in existing WUN research areas and new areas with the potential/ promise for developing a sustainable WUN collaboration. Unfortunately, this scheme is not open to Pathway 2 research assistants, associates or fellows

Who's Eligible? The University of Bristol provides funding to cover travel and accommodation costs for PG Research Students (typically in the second or penultimate year of study) and Early Career Researchers (Pathway 1) to pursue their research at one of the 22 WUN institutions across the globe. Recent UoB awardees and their destinations can be found here. Priority is given to well-defined proposals which demonstrate a clear benefit to the applicant, department, University of Bristol and WUN. Applicants should indicate how their department will contribute towards the proposed visit and should demonstrate how the collaboration will be sustained following the visit. PhD research students are reminded that the purpose of the scheme is to undertake research overseas and to cultivate research links and hence is not appropriate for students in either the very early or final stages of their PhD.

What's available? The University of Bristol will provide funding for an international economy airfare and a contribution towards subsistence costs (up to a maximum of £800 per month) for visits up to 3 months.

Note that the University of Bristol runs a student/staff exchange programme with the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

Applications should be sent electronically (merged into one PDF document) to the IAS/WUN Research Development Officers, Ms Sam Barlow and Dr Robert Crowe the IAS/WUN Research Development Officers (wun-rmp@bristol.ac.uk) before the relevant deadline (please see below).
