What are units?

Units are the basic building blocks of study at Bristol. In any given year a student may be taking one or many units each lasting a few weeks or the whole year. Units may be mandatory, optional or open.

What are open units?

Open units are units that are outside of the student's subject discipline and that any student can take (i.e. not have any pre- or co-requisites), subject to space and timetabling constraints. Single honours undergraduate students are normally able to choose up to 20 credit points of open units.
