Seminars are grouped into elements covering specialised topics in physiology that reflect the research interests of the department. Four elements are taken in total. Topics include : integrated cardiovascular physiology; the heart in health and disease; physiological genomics; muscle, motility nd migration. Up to two elements may also be chosen from : ion channels in behaviour and disease; pain; neuroscience of hearing and deafness; brain and behaviour. There are also seminars on the philosophy of science, research techniques and the evaluation of scientific data and papers. Sessions on personal transferable skills, career possibilities and IT are also held. The main practical work is a research project, usually done in pairs, extending over two terms.
