Description including Unit Aims

The Unit consists of 20 lectures or workshops that cover a variety of topics concerning the quantitative study of biomolecules. Specifically, lectures will cover molecular structure determination, basic thermodynamics, proteomics, mass spectrometry, theoretical and practical aspects of ligand binding and biochemical kinetics. Teaching is supported by small group tutorials.

Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of the Unit the students should be able to describe a variety of practical experimental techniques in biophysics and outline the underlying theory in each case. They should also be able to describe the applications of these techniques in the general area molecular life sciences.

90% of the unit marks are from a two hour exam paper consisting of essay and data handling questions. 10% of the unit marks are from a literature comprehension exercise.
