This unit will acquaint students with the nature and scope of alternative forms of accountability which goes beyond the traditional accounting model. Development of such alternative forms of corporate accountability is considered essential in the modern business world as is evidenced by the publication of substantial CR (Corporate Responsibility)/sustainability reports by more than 90% of the G250 companies (KPMG, 2015). Students will learn the theory and practice of accounting for sustainability with insights into real life corporate practices in this area.
On completion of the unit students should be able to:
1. Discuss and critically evaluate alternative forms of accountability.
2. Discuss the different theoretical perspectives that underpin accountability and accounting for sustainability.
3. Critically evaluate the practice of accounting for sustainability from different perspectives.
Teaching will be delivered through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous sessions including lectures, tutorials, drop-in sessions, discussion boards and other online learning opportunities
This unit will be assessed by group coursework 20% and exam 80%

How much time the unit requires
Each credit equates to 10 hours of total student input. For example a 20 credit unit will take you 200 hours
of study to complete. Your total learning time is made up of contact time, directed learning tasks,
independent learning and assessment activity.

Assessment
The Board of Examiners will consider all cases where students have failed or not completed the assessments required for credit.
The Board considers each student's outcomes across all the units which contribute to each year's programme of study. If you have self-certificated your absence from an
assessment, you will normally be required to complete it the next time it runs (this is usually in the next assessment period).
The Board of Examiners will take into account any extenuating circumstances and operates
within the Regulations and Code of Practice for Taught Programmes.
