This unit completes the MRes in natural hazards and represents the final stage of the learning process. Within this unit the student will perform self-directed original research using the skills honed in the Phase 1 Research Project (Natural Hazards) unit. Key activities in this unit may include (i) the application of statistical and analytical methods to complex datasets, (ii) presentation of data at a level suitable for publication, (iii)critical evaluation of uncertainties inherent in both the data themseves and any analysis performed and (iv) succinct summary of important findings. The students will incorporate a highly distilled summary of the report from Phase 1 Research Project (natural hazards) into their report of results, discussion and conclusions from the Phase 2 Research Project( natural hazards) into a MRes dissertation for examination by the supervisor and another member of the department. Both reports will be available for the external examiner.
