This Unit will focus on a selection of passages from the Hebrew Bible: Exodus 19-24, 1 Kings 1-2, Isaiah 40-42, Psalms 42-45. Selections from these texts will be read in detail in Hebrew; there will also be some consideration of the background of each individual book and its place within the history and religion of ancient Israel. Students must do some preparatory reading before the Unit begins, as well as independent background reading as the Unit progresses; please see the Unit Tutor for further advice.
