This module will introduce the students to advanced grafting techniques including sinus grafting, block grafts, distraction techniques and complex grafts.
Lectures and small group teaching on study day 12. Distance learning package delivered via Blackboard including additional ‘podcast’ lectures/videos and directed reading. This unit runs concurrently with the Clinical Practice attachment Unit and is closely linked with it, teaching is therefore supplemented by one to one teaching and observation of clinical practice.
Formative assessment
During the study day via direct verbal feedback.
Summative Assessments
Written assignments to include aspects of the following:
1. Advanced grafting procedures. Written assignment looking at the relative indications and contraindications of advanced grafting techniques and the management of the atrophic maxilla. 45% of unit mark
2. Osseodistraction and CBCT guided surgery. Written assignment looking at the role of osseodistraction and CBCT guided surgery. 45% of unit mark
3. Multidisciplinary care. Written assignment looking the clinical management of multidisciplinary cases and the development of a clinical care pathway 10% of unit mark
Total 100% of unit marks.
Submission date will be given to students verbally and on Blackboard.
