Description including Unit Aims

This unit will comprise several components. The didatic seminars are identical to those studied by level 3 students on PHYY30100, in which 4 of 8 elements are selected for attendance of seminars and advanced study. The content relates to various ion channel through to whole animal topics on cardiovascular, neuroscience and cell biology themes. In one assessment of these specialist physiology topics, the MSci students will be expected to show greater technical and critical insight than BSc students. Other components are specific to students having undertaken the PHYY 30200 Industrial Study Unit. Early in the year, students will present the key results of their industrial year at a scheduled assessment poster session (in addition to a formal written dissertation). In place of the normal third year laboratory project, students will prepare a grant proposal on an agreed research topic and in the format required by Research Councils.
