The group project involves you working in a group of 5/6 to specify, design and implement a large scale software system. The precise project will depend on the year and is decided upon by the course director in association with the groups. The project could, for example, be a multi-user game. The system will be developed on workstations, more expensive multimedia hardware is available to demonstrate the system. The project will involve many aspects of computer science, including networking and communications, artificial intelligence, parallel processing, computer graphics and software engineering. An `away-day' will be arranged on which you will, through a series of activities and tasks, investigate the problems and benefits of team-work.
Successful completion of this unit will enable you to: Write a good report Specify a design as part of a team; Implement a design according to an agreed specification; Integrate various parts in order to make a working system; Present and demonstrate their system.
1 hour lecture, weekly group meetings, 380 hours of specification, prototyping, design, implementation, and write-up (the load is 400 hours per group member). One team-building away-day
100% Coursework
These will depend on the project.
