The unit duration is of one calendar year. During the year, students are directly involved in an approved research/drug development project supervised by a senior staff member of the relevant pharmaceutical company, and approved by the Department of Pharmacology. The student is a full-time employee of the company and is subject to the employer's standard terms of employment, including compliance with all secrecy arrangements agreed between the company and the University of Bristol. All of the pharmaceutical companies accepting our MSci students are "blue-chip" companies with which the Department of Pharmacology has long-standing contacts and research interactions, and a strong record of offering industrial trainee opportunities as components of degree programmes. Industrial supervisors will have an awareness of the objectives and content of the MSci programme and recognise the limitations of students' knowledge as they embark upon their industrial year.
