Description including Unit Aims

During this Unit students will conduct a research-based project on a topic related to the field of cardiovascular medicine and perfusion science. The students can choose if they wish to do a laboratory based ‘wet’ research project or a ‘dry’ literature, research proposal or data analysis project. This unit aims to teach students to design and conduct good quality research in the field of cardiovascular medicine and perfusion science. Candidates will be able to select a project topic offered from a range of potential projects. This unit aims to introduce the student to research methods and presentation and topics will range from practical laboratory based projects to critical literature reviews.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • Undertake a literature search in their field of study within the areas of cardiovascular disease and perfusion science
  • Design and undertaking a research project (either ‘dry’ literature based or ‘wet’ laboratory based).
  • Critically analyse research data and present findings.

Teaching Information

  • Self-directed study
  • Discussion with project supervisor
  • Laboratory experiments in the case of experimental research projects
