Summary and Objectives: This unit provides an opportunity to pursue research work at an advanced level, to liaise with other researchers and to present research results in written format.
This unit allows students to undertake supervised research on a topic of their own choosing. It builds on both the experience of the Year 3 Research Project, and more advanced level 4 courses which provide access to additional research skills. However, the Extended Research Project must be clearly different from the Research Project completed in Year 3, both with respect to topic and methods used. It is undertaken in terms 2 and 3, with preparation of a final 12,000 word report by mid-May. A synopsis must be prepared and submitted to the Unit Convenor by the end of week 12. The suitability of the topic will be approved by the Unit Director and Year 4 Tutor.
