Description including Unit Aims
Unit aims:
- To describe the origin of gametes and gametogenesis in the male and female.
- To explain the process of fertilization, implantation and early embryo development.
- To introduce current laboratory and clinical research in the above areas within the University of Bristol.
- To describe routine laboratory techniques used in this field.
Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of this unit students will be able to:
- demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the origin of gametes and the processes involved in gametogenesis in both the male and female
- describe the processes of fertilisation and implantation
- explain routine laboratory techniques used to investigate gametogenesis and early embryo development.

End of Unit assessment (contributing a total of 40% to the Unit)
- A timed, open book end of unit written assessment.
The pass-mark for the unit will be 50%.
