Unit Information

This unit comprises the year spent abroad by B.Sc. students on the 4 year "Geography with Study in Continental Europe" degree programme. The precise content of this unit will vary on an individual basis dependant on which host institution on the Continent the student opts to study at. Host institutions will be in French, German, Italian and Spanish speaking countries.

Your learning on this unit

Specific Learning outcomes will depend on the institution selected and the units studied. However, it is anticipated that students will also benefit from the following:

  • Fluency in a foreign language
  • Experience of Geography in a non-UK context
  • Experience of different study methods and styles and the chance to extend knowledge beyond the units that are delivered in Bristol
  • Preparation for a career relating to International Environments
  • The opportunity to broaden horizons and be immersed in a new and exciting cultural environment

How you will learn

Dependent on the host institution and the units selected

How you will be assessed

Assessment will clearly depend on the host institution and the units of study selected. Students will be expected to select units of study at a level equivalent to University of Bristol level 6. The mark for this unit will be derived solely from the translation of marks achieved at the host University via algorithms agreed by the University of Bristol.

Resources

If this unit has a Resource List, you will normally find a link to it in the Blackboard area for the unit. Sometimes there will be a separate link for each weekly topic.

If you are unable to access a list through Blackboard, you can also find it via the Resource Lists homepage. Search for the list by the unit name or code (e.g. GEOG35000).

How much time the unit requires
Each credit equates to 10 hours of total student input. For example a 20 credit unit will take you 200 hours of study to complete. Your total learning time is made up of contact time, directed learning tasks, independent learning and assessment activity.

See the Faculty workload statement relating to this unit for more information.

Assessment
The Board of Examiners will consider all cases where students have failed or not completed the assessments required for credit. The Board considers each student's outcomes across all the units which contribute to each year's programme of study. If you have self-certificated your absence from an assessment, you will normally be required to complete it the next time it runs (this is usually in the next assessment period).
The Board of Examiners will take into account any extenuating circumstances and operates within the Regulations and Code of Practice for Taught Programmes.
