This course aims to inspire, encourage and support students in writing fiction and in undertaking related critical reading. Through writing exercises and practical advice, students will be offered help in such areas as: working with structure, re-reading/re-drafting work and editing. The unit aims to help both new and ongoing students to gain skills relevant to further study at university level.
Seminars
Students will be assessed in two areas: formatively, on their participation in workshops, both in giving feedback on the work of other students and receiving and responding to feedback on their own fiction (i); and summatively, through the submission of one piece of work (2000 to 3500 words), in which they will be expected to demonstrate what they have learnt about such topics as working with structure, re-reading/re-drafting work and editing (ii).
