The Context of Strategic Management is designed to lay the foundations for the degree programme. The unit will introduce the theoretical concepts that underpin the management of organisations, and develop students& ability to evaluate critically research and practice in management. As a result, students will both be able to differentiate between good and bad research and practice, and produce better work themselves. It is acknowledged that for most students joining the programme, academic study is a hazy memory, and at the same time the availability of knowledge through modern technology has changed the way resources are used to assist learning. This unit is therefore also designed to introduce students to Masters-level study at the University of Bristol by providing students with grounding in the use of Library, database and other resources essential to the study of strategic management.
