Description including Unit Aims

This unit provides an introduction to developmental psychology. It focuses on key stages of perceptual, cognitive and social development taking a biological perspective where appropriate.

The aims of this unit are to cover the major theoretical perspectives taken in developmental psychology, and the unique methodologies and techniques used.

Intended Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, a student will be able to:

1. Identify the key theoretical perspectives taken in developmental psychology.
2. Recognise the methodologies and techniques used in developmental psychology especially those for studying young children.
3. Define contemporary theory and methods in developmental psychology.

Weekly lectures, and a revision session.
