Physiology is the study of the functions of living organisms and is taught as a vertically integrated theme within the Dental programme, mainly in Levels 1 and 2. The General Physiology Unit taught in the first year covers both the function and histology of systems at all levels of organisation from individual cells to the whole animal. This will underpin the more detailed study of Oral Physiology covered in the Oral Biology Unit during years 2-4. Themes developed in the Physiology and Oral Biology Units will be elaborated in the clinical years.
