Description including Unit Aims

Students will carry out a project investigating practice computer systems. A series of lectures is given covering the basics of computer security, data integrity, networks and virus prevention. This series serves as a foundation and represents the minimum essential knowledge that prospective practice managers need to do their jobs. Ensuring health and safety in a clinical environment is of vital importance to all staff. Lectures on health and safety regulations, conducting risk assessments, developing H&S procedures and reviewing and monitoring these build upon and consolidate health and safety training already received in years 1 and 2.Nurses should be familiar with the RCVS Guide to Professional Conduct and with all the major legislation affecting veterinary practice today, as well as be aware of the latest issues of concern to the profession and currently being debated. A series of three lectures deals firstly with the Codes of Conduct for vets, nurses and practice managers and the professional and ethical issues that arise in veterinary practice, then reviews the major legislation and, finally, discusses current issues.
