The two units in this level (Latin A1 and A2) are designed for those who have little or no previous knowledge of Latin. In them you will learn all the fundamental morphology and syntax of classical Latin. In addition, in A2 you will read a substantial amount of un-adapted Latin. At the conclusion of this course you should be able to read straightforward Latin texts on your own, with the aid of a reference grammar and dictionary.
Aims:
By the end of this unit, students will
1. Be able to translate approximately 250 Latin vocabulary items into English;
2. Be able to analyze basic elements of Latin morphology and syntax;
3. Be able to translate very simple Latin to English
Seminars and reading classes, grammatical instruction classes.
1 x 45-minute class test (25%) and 1 x 2-hour exam (75%) [both assessing all intended learning outcomes]
