This unit covers the promotion and maintenance of oral health for children. The student shall have an understanding of the general growth and development of the child and the recognition, preventive treatment and operative management of the common disease processes. It will encompass operative techniques permitted to be undertaken by the dental therapist in their role in liaison with other members of the dental team.

Written assessment – 2 hour written paper, four compulsory essay questions. Pass mark is 50%. Weighting 40% of total.
Clinical assessments on Manikin head simulator. 1.5 hours to complete a clinical assessment and written reflection. Pass mark is 50%. Weighting 60% of total.
