Detailed gross and systemic anatomy of the domestic species (horse, dog, ruminant). Emphasis is placed on the adaptations of structures and systems for their normal environment and diet. Topics covered include the respiratory, cardiovascular, nervous, digestive, reproductive and muscular systems with emphasis on such functions as locomotion and visceral function. The practical classes in the laboratory will include study of prosected specimens and active dissection on cadaveric animals, as well as surface anatomy on live animals.
At the end of this unit, students will know:
Lectures: 2-3 x 1-hour per week
Lab practicals: 1 x 3-hours per week
Two 2-hour written examinations (25% each), consisting of short-answer questions only.
Three 1-hour laboratory exams (10%, 20% and 20%), consisting of identification and applied knowledge questions.
