This is a 20-credit unit within the International Foundation Programme which is aimed at students requiring standard, higher or advanced numeracy skills.
The unit aims to provide students with a strong mathematical foundation for further academic study, and to give students the appropriate mathematical skills, knowledge and understanding to help them progress to a range of courses in higher education.
The teaching and learning will cover the following content:
Number
Algebra
Ratio, proportion and rates of change
Geometry and measures
Probability
Statistics
By the end of the unit, students will be able to:
Delivered through small class teaching; 2 x 2-hour seminars per week
Assessment for learning/Formative Assessment
Regular problem sheets with feedback provided in seminars
Assessment of learning/Summative Learning
100% summative assessment by exam:
2.5hr exam, (ILOs 1, 2, 3)
