Only open to MBChB students.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • Know the basic anatomy of the musculoskeletal system and surgical approaches
  • Have a general knowledge of the pathogenesis, clinical features and management of common disorders in rheumatology and orthopaedics
  • Know how to approach the management of patients with common musculoskeletal disorders
  • Taking responsibility for their own learning and progression
  • Development of a professional manner
  • Define normal physiological parameters within the field of emergency medicine
  • Understand the significance of abnormal observations in the recognition of a critically unwell patient
  • Define ABC approach in the context of an acutely unwell patient
  • Be able to decide when to use a 'focussed history and examination' and when to opt for the 'ABC approach'
  • Be able to assess a critically ill or injured patient using a structured 'ABC approach'
  • Acquire a knowledge and understanding of the diagnosis, clinical features and management of common disorders in ophthalmology
  • Acquire and demonstrate proficiency in communication and the other essential skills of ophthalmology
  • Acquire and demonstrate attitudes essential to the practice of opthalmology

  • Clinical component (contributes 50% of unit mark)

Comprising: -history taking -clinical examination -clinical reasoning relating to musculoskeletal system, emergency medicine and opthalmology
