Description including Unit Aims

This unit aims to: enable students to develop conceptual and detailed solutions for a realistic civil engineering project, utilising and extending their knowledge, understanding and skills acquired throughout the degree programme; encourage group working on inter-disciplinary problems; allow students to practise management, teamwork and organisational skills.

Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of the project successful students will;

1. have developed a detailed design brief from an initial outline brief,

2. have researched background information,

3. have created and evaluated a range of design solutions, taking into account technical, economic and environmental contexts,

4. have selected a preferred solution,

5. have developed in detail appropriate parts of the preferred design,

6. have planned and managed the project using project management, QA and CDM procedures,

7. have prepared a competent technical report and associated design output.
