Description including Unit Aims

During this unit students will conduct a research-based project on a topic related to the field of cardiovascular medicine and perfusion science. The students can choose if they wish to do a laboratory / clinical based ‘wet’ research project or a ‘dry’ literature, research proposal or data analysis project. This unit aims to teach students to design and conduct good quality research in the field of cardiovascular medicine and perfusion science. Candidates will be able to select a project topic offered from a range of potential projects or develop their own ideas.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • Undertake a literature search in their field of study within the areas of cardiovascular disease and perfusion science.
  • Design and undertake a research project (literature review, project proposal, data analysis or lab / clinical-based practical project.
  • Critically analyse research data
  • Present and discuss findings.

Assessment Information

  • Review essay (3000 words), contributing 10% to the unit.
  • Dissertation (7000 words), contributing 70% to the unit mark
  • Oral presentation and viva, contributing 20% to the unit mark
