Description including Unit Aims
The academic session is spent at a University outside the European Union, undertaking a range of law, language and cultural units not taken at the University of Bristol, according to a jointly approved programme.
Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of this unit a successful student will be able to:
- Demonstrate a fluency in the language of the country when studying in a foreign language
- Explain the key principles of the legal system and culture of the country in question
- Demonstrate a grounding in new areas of study, including law, language and culture

Assessment Information
Assessment will depend on the host institution and the units of study selected and may include some coursework as well as written or oral examinations at the host institution.
The overall mark for this unit will be derived from the translation of the marks achieved during the year abroad via algorithms agreed by the University of Bristol.
The 'Year Abroad Mark' counts as 10% towards the final degree classification.
The assessments will assess all of the intended learning outcomes for this unit.

Students studying in non-common law systems are recommended an introductory text in English on the law of the country in question.
