Description including Unit Aims

The unit is one of the options designated under the generic category of Production Skills. As with the others it is designed to offer reinforcement in one skill area to build on the general understanding developed through mandatory units and to enable the acquisition of a base of skills so collaborative production of the dissertation projects is possible at the appropriate professional standards. Based on practical exercises, the unit offers a structured practical introduction to the skills and disciplines of film and video sound recording and post-production, and basic familiarisation with the recording and editing of digital sound for screen-based media. An important aim is increasing awareness of the importance of sound as an expressive medium within screen material, and the development of aural sensitivity and judgement.
