This unit introduces the study of German literature, history, linguistics and culture from the Middle Ages to the present through close study of representative texts and ideas. It aims to help students develop their skills of critical analysis and synthesis, informed discussion and the written presentation of ideas. It consists of two seminar classes on literature, history, and / linguistics and a lecture course on the history of Germany and Austria. Practical guidance on writing essays and commentaries is built into the discussion classes.
Aims:
Exam (History Lectures 33.3%), Essay x 2, 1500 words each (Seminars 67.3%)
