The individual project provides students with the opportunity to carry out an extended investigation into a computer science problem. It allows students to develop their skills in researching and investigating a topic, in writing a detailed report and in the giving of verbal presentations. The student selects a topic area covered by one of the research groups in the department, formulates a project and then finds a member of staff to supervise it. The project will normally require the specification, design and implementation of a substantial piece of software.
Successful completion of the unit will enable you to: familiarise yourself with a research area, and to perform a search of the relevant scientific literature; formulate objectives of the investigation; work independently and apply professional skills; integrate relevant existing tools and algorithms; be innovative in a scientific or technical sense; present your results in a convincing way, both in writing and verbally.
You proceed on the project under the guidance of your supervisor. The nominal load is 200 hours.
