Description

This unit consists of a series of formal lectures that bring together the material taught during MEDIM7001,7003 and 7004 & MEDIM0013 and MEDIM0014. Tutorials may be used to further increase the student’s understanding of the taught material. Emphasis will be on highlighting the integrative aspects of molecular neuroscience. Knowledge on the cross-talk between different biological levels of organisation and the importance of molecular neuroscience for health and disease will be further deepened.

The Aims of this unit are:

  1. To convey to students the integrative connections between the subjects taught during the previous taught units.
  2. To equip students with skills to interpret the importance of connections between different levels of biological organisation for health and disease.
  3. To further increase the abilities of students to analyse scientific information and use this information creatively the students will prepare a scientific poster based on a comprehensive neuroscientific publication, present this poster to examiners and their peers, and answer questions related to the poster orally or in writing

Intended learning outcomes

At the end of this unit:

Students will have a good knowledge of the connections between the different levels of biological organisation as taught during this module and will demonstrate a good insight into the importance of such connections for health and disease. Students will be able to analyse, develop and discuss novel integrative research strategies within the field of integrative molecular neuroscience.

Teaching details

This unit is taught through lectures. Asynchronous and/or synchronous tutorials, workshops and Q&A sessions may be used to further increase the student’s understanding of the taught material.

Assessment Details

This Unit is assessed through:

  • the preparation, presentation and discussion of a research paper from the scientific literature in the form of a scientific poster (100%).
