Description including Unit Aims

This unit is designed as a continuation for those who have little or no previous knowledge of Latin. You will learn all the fundamental morphology and syntax of classical Latin and at level A2 you will read a substantial amount of un-adapted Latin. At the conclusion of this unit you should be able to read straightforward Latin texts on your own, with the aid of a reference grammar and dictionary.

Aims:

  • To continue introducing students to the grammatical and syntactical structures associated with Latin
  • To continue introducing students to Latin vocabulary, syntax, and morphology
  • To continue developing students’ ability to read and translate Latin texts

Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. demonstrate knowledge of Latin vocabulary at the standard of level A2.
  2. identify and discuss Latin morphology and syntax as appropriate to level A2
  3. translate straightforward Latin into good English appropriate to level A2
