This unit is designed for those who have little or no previous knowledge of ancient Greek, and aim to teach students the techniques of reading straightforward original Greek texts with the aid of a dictionary and reference grammar. Students unused to the workings of an inflected language and the grammatical terms used to analyse it will be given special help.

This unit will involve a combination of independent activities, long- and short-form lectures, and discussion. Students will be expected to engage with materials and participate on a weekly basis. Feedback will be provided for both formative and summative assessments, and this will be supported by meetings with tutors.
