Description including Unit Aims

A comprehensive study of the principles of design and manufacture of composites to promote the understanding of the increased complexity of materials properties, behaviour and analysis methods for the design and manufacture of advanced composite structures.

Intended Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the unit the student will be able to:

  • identify and understand the key issues and methods for the design and manufacture of advanced composite structures;
  • apply the basic principles for conceptual design, manufacturability analysis, initial sizing and preliminary structural analysis of advanced composite components at Masters level.

100% 3 hour examination in May/June, 4 compulsory themed questions
