This unit consists of three elements: Geology 2 - to develop students' knowledge, understanding and skills in the area of Engineering Geology, covering, Historical and Physical Geology, Site Investigation, Geology of Bristol Region and Field Studies in Engineering Geology; Soil Mechanics 2 - to enable students to gain a sound grasp of the fundamentals of soil material behaviour covering, Permeability, Effective Stress, Stress and Strain, Mohr's Circles of Stress and Stress Paths, Laboratory Testing of Soils, One- Dimensional Compression, Shear Strength of saturated soils, Suction and capillarity and Compaction; Geotechnical Analysis 2 - to introduce students to some methods of Geotechnical Analysis covering Seepage and Flow-Nets, Earth Pressures, Slope Stability.
