Technology is ubiquitous and is increasingly used in educational settings and by learners to further their own, personalised learning. This unit will help participants to evaluate a variety of tools, approaches and methods with a view to enhancing their teaching/ learning. It will introduce some key concepts in TEL, taking a critical approach to the research in the context of educational theory and evidence based teaching. It will also look at pragmatic issues and will require participants to implement TEL tool(s) or strategies within their own teaching/learning.
The unit will appeal to those who already use TEL but also to anyone keen to embrace new developments to support their teaching and also their own learning. It will not include training in the use of TEL tools.
Aims: This module aims to introduce learners to key concepts and practices relating to using technology to enhance teaching/learning within the health professions. It also aims to equip them to use technology enhanced learning in their own learning and teaching.

Blended learning, including use of electronic tools and study days. Study days will be based on best practice interactive teaching/ learning and may include:
TEL tools will also be used in pre-unit work and/or in between teaching days
Formative: Peer and tutor feedback on tasks and critical readings and reflective journal kept throughout the unit.
Summative: The assignment consists of a presentation (duration 20 minutes plus questions), accompanied by a short, written reflection.

How much time the unit requires
Each credit equates to 10 hours of total student input. For example a 20 credit unit will take you 200 hours
of study to complete. Your total learning time is made up of contact time, directed learning tasks,
independent learning and assessment activity.

Assessment
The Board of Examiners will consider all cases where students have failed or not completed the assessments required for credit.
The Board considers each student's outcomes across all the units which contribute to each year's programme of study. If you have self-certificated your absence from an
assessment, you will normally be required to complete it the next time it runs (this is usually in the next assessment period).
The Board of Examiners will take into account any extenuating circumstances and operates
within the Regulations and Code of Practice for Taught Programmes.
