Description including Unit Aims

Methods, facilities, measurement and analysis in the field of experimental aerodynamics, with particular reference to the demands of the aerospace industry.

To give students an insight into experimental aerodynamics :and dynamics- methods, facilities, measurement and analysis.

Intended Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the unit the student will:

  • have an understanding of the various experimental aerodynamic and dynamic facilities and techniques that are available;
  • have a working knowledge of the methods of measurement, result analysis and correction for tunnel interference effects.

Teaching Information

  • 23 Lectures.
  • 2 Example Classes.
  • 1 Laboratory demonstration.
  • Further reading and non-assessed example questions to be done in private study time of 56 hours.

Assessment Information

75% - 2 hour examination 25% - coursework (PIV lab experiment in groups of 3 followed by a presentation).
