Description

Aim: to deepen understanding of assessment practice and principles in order to improve assessment strategies

in their own programme.

This module is aimed at those who are in a position to plan and put into effect assessment strategies for a unit,

year or whole programme. This will deepen knowledge of current thinking and research into assessment theory

and practice. You will reflect on your own current assessment practices, explore innovative approaches to

assessment and review approaches to programmatic assessment. This module will give you the tools to make

innovative and evidence based changes to current assessment practices.

Intended learning outcomes

Participants will be able to:

Analyse and self-evaluate current knowledge of assessment methodologies.

Critique own assessment provision drawing on a critical review of current theory and research evidence.

Explore programmatic assessment in their own context.

Design new and innovative strategies of assessment for varied learning outcomes.

Teaching details

There will be a mixed method approach consistent with current best

practice. This will include presentations by course tutors, large and

small group discussions, workshops and teamwork, paired activities, online resources,

presentations by participants with structured learning outcomes.

Assessment Details

Formative assessment: writing and critiquing own assessments with

reference to theory.

Summative assessment: written assignment(s) totalling 3000

words (or equivalent). This totals 100% of final grade for the module.
