Description including Unit Aims

This module is delivered in the second year of study via an introductory lecture and subsequent tutorials with a named co-ordinator.

During this period of self directing learning, the student will research, plan and execute a project, on a topic relevant to the course of the study. The project will be presented as both a written report and a verbal presentation using powerPoint. Alternatively the student may wish to undertake an Audit in a relevant dental field which they may be asked to present at the Trusts annual Audit Oscars presentations. All students receive a lecture by our audit facilitator on the principles of audit design and how to carry out a successful audit.

Aims:

  • Students will prepare and a written report of 4,000 words +/- 10% on an area studied through their training.
  • Students will present their project to their peers via a PowerPoint presentation.
  • Students will be taught how to access data from a variety of sources and interpret literature relevant to their project.
  • Students will be familiar with a variety of IT skills
  • Students will be familiar with basic statistical analyses

Project

Students must complete a project around research or audit regarding any part of the curriculum they choose. The project is to be presented in written form and then presented verbally to fellow students and staff of the school. Students must gain a pass mark of 50% or more in order to progress to the final examinations. The project will contribute up to 10% of the marks for finals.
