Finite element analysis and the use of professional computer packages, redundant structures, thin-walled structures. Strengthening mechanisms for metals, properties of various metal alloy systems. Aircraft airworthiness requirements and structural loading estimation.
Aims:
To introduce and develop an understanding of the finite element analysis, non symmetric beam analysis and 2D stress-strain analysis. To introduce load estimating, flight envelopes and airworthiness requirements. To acquire an understanding of the phase composition and microstructure of equilibrium and non-equilibrium systems.
On successful completion of the unit the student will:
Lectures, examples classes and laboratories.
Updated by Unit lecturers each year.
