Description including Unit Aims

This unit explores computer graphics production from paper design through to final render. Professional software is used as a framework to introduce fundamental concepts. The syllabus includes: Conceptual Design - drawing, character and set design; Surfaces - a wide range of polygonal, NURBS and subdivision surface modelling techniques will be introduced from transforming curves and primitives through to complex surface edits; Rendering - lighting effects, camera setup, shaders, textures and surface maps will all be introduced prior to exploring the final rendering and compositing process.

Aims:

This unit aims to introduce the process of designing and creating CG characters and environments using professional software. The unit focuses on the creation of static content from initial concept through to final render.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Successful completion of this unit will enable a student to:

  • Design and produce complex computer graphics
  • Experience professional content production software
  • Understand the fundamentals of 3D content creation
