Description

The Unit consists of 20 lectures that cover a variety of topics concerning the quantitative study of biomolecules. The Unit begins with a series of lectures that introduce the general area of research for the non-specialist. The remaining lectures will cover the isolation, molecular structure determination and basic mechanistic characterisation of biomolecules using a variety of biophysical techniques. Teaching will be supported by tutorials given as part of the Core Skills Unit.

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of the Unit the students should be able to describe a variety of practical experimental techniques in biophysics and outline the underlying theory in each case. They should also be able to describe the applications of these techniques in the general area molecular life sciences.

Online formative MCQ assessment during the unit plus a 2 hour summative assessment of data analysis questions and short answer questions.
