A comprehensive study of the principles and practice of design and manufacture of composites to promote the understanding of the increased complexity of materials properties, behaviour and analysis methods for the design and manufacture of advanced composite structures.
On successful completion of the unit the student will be able to: •identify and understand the key issues and methods for the design and manufacture of advanced composite structures; • independently carry out conceptual design, manufacturability analysis, initial sizing and preliminary structural analysis of advanced composite components at Masters level
Lectures, example classes, demonstration.
50% - Assessed work including: Design and Manufacturing Case studies. 50% - 3 Hour examination in May/June, 4 compulsory questions
The unit notes are comprehensive and self-contained. Further background reading references are updated by Unit Lecturers each year.
